Archer Point Campground Review
Location: Archer Point, QLD
Location: Archer Point, QLD
Archer Point camping area is a free picturesque campground located a short 25km drive south from Cooktown (approx. 20 min drive) along the sealed Mulligan Highway and then unsealed Archer Point Road. This gorgeous spot is suitable for fully self-sufficient travellers as there are no toilets, power or water on site.
Based high on the hill above the Coral Sea, this scenic location offers epic views of the sunrise over the sea, not to mention the fact it’s a prime destination for budding kite surfers.

Archer Point camping area was free (we always love a good free site!) and provided a gorgeous view over the Coral Sea. It was super windy, but we got a little crafty and created a fairly sheltered spot where we were able to protect ourselves with some clever van placement.
The sunset and sunrise were spectacular and there were a stack of camping spots to choose from.
We were able to have a fire at night which provided a welcome reprieve from the wind. Word of warning: if you go during the school holidays it can be pretty busy.
